Partially minor old restoration, partially minor old retouching. Frame. The composition directly follows the upper section of the monumental altarpiece "Seppellimento di Santa Petronilla," which Guercino created in 1623 for St. Peter's Basilica in Rome (now in the Capitoline Museums). There, the heavenly vision is arranged above the burial scene; the present work isolates this upper part of the picture and transforms it into an independent devotional image.
