Description
RELIEF: CRUCIFIXION GROUP Flanders, probably 17th century Wood, sculpted, stained, in a box frame. Total height 46 cm, width 11 cm, depth 9.5 cm, weight approx. Finely crafted relief depicting the crucifixion of Christ on Golgotha, flanked by the two thieves Dismas and Gestas on separate crosses. In the foreground are the mourning Mary and the evangelist John as central witnesses to the Passion. At the foot of the cross appears a horseman, iconographically probably to be interpreted as the Roman captain Longinus. Partially bumped, min. dam., woodworm infestation, rest..
