MELCHIOR FROM A GROUP OF FIGURES 'ADORATION OF THE KINGS' German, 18th century Wood, sculpted, gilded, and polychromed. H. 34, W. 31, W 18 cm. Sacred representation of the kneeling king 'Melchior' presenting the baby Jesus with an open casket containing gold, as a sign of Christ's royal dignity. Dressed in a colourful cloak with a gilded undergarment, he is accompanied by a child who reverently holds his cloak. Partially preserved and with some loss of material.
