ALFRED BOUCHER 1850 Nogent-sur-Seine - 1934 Aix-les-Bains 'LA PHILOSOPHIE DE L'HISTOIRE' White marble with natural veining, partly in relief. H. 92, w. 33, d. 18 cm. Signed on the front 'A. Boucher' on the front. Sculptural depiction of a female nude, standing by a rock, holding her hands to her head. A sailing ship in low relief in the background and a small flower at the bottom. Alfred Boucher exhibited the relief 'The History of Philosophy' at the Salon in Paris in 1898 and at the Universal Exhibition in 1900. A comparable relief can be found in the Musée de Nogent-sur-Seine. Part. slightly rubbed, slight age-related soiling, holes to the sides from an earlier mount. Literature: J.
