LARGE ENTHRONED MADONNA AND CHILD AS QUEEN OF HEAVEN German, early 18th century Linden wood, carved in the round, polychromed and gilded, flattened at the back, metal crown. H. 79, W. 34, D. 28 cm. Sculptural depiction of Mary as Queen of Heaven, enthroned upon a dynamic bank of clouds featuring an angel's head; she holds a twisted, gilded scepter. The lively, unclothed Christ Child sits on her right knee. Areas of minor damage and rubbing; losses to the polychromy; signs of restoration and damage.
