ALLEGORICAL FEMALE FIGURE (LIKELY AN ALLEGORY OF FERTILITY) Italy or Southern Germany, late 18th century. Walnut, carved in the round. H. 101, W. 38, D. 28 cm. Large Baroque wood sculpture of a female allegorical figure wearing classical-style drapery and with a bared breast. The figure stands in a slight *contrapposto* pose and is wrapped in a dynamically draped cloak that effectively accentuates the contours of the body. The finely modeled face-with a downcast gaze-and the wreath of leaves in her hair lend the depiction a stately character. Minor damage in places; age-related tension cracks and drying cracks.
