A VERY FINE, RARE AND LARGE ICON SHOWING THE ASSEMBLY OF THE MOST HOLY MOTHER OF GOD Russian, Palekh, late 19th century Tempera on wood panel with kovcheg. The haloes and background made of gold. Finely executed in great detail. The Mother of God enthroned with the Christ Child on her lap, surrounded by a large nimb and by angels, in the lower part of the scene prophets and saints praising the Virgin, all standing on a rocky ground. On the reverse old label with inventory number 'N 904'. 53.5 x 43.7 cm.
