A VERY RARE ICON SHOWING THE ASSEMBLY OF THE MOST HOLY MOTHER OF GOD Russian, 19th century (in the style of the 17th century) Tempera on wood panel with kovcheg. The haloes made of gold. The Mother of God and Christ flanked by the three Magi to the left and three sheperds to the right. On the upper part of the composition two groups of angels appearing in the open heavens, kneeling in front of the star of Bethlehem. Below the Mother of God a group of saints flanked by St. John of Damascus and Euthymius the Great bearing open scrolls. The lower corners showing the personification of the Earth and the Desert. 30.8 x 25.5 cm.
