A VERY RARE AND FINE ICON OF THE DIVINE LITURGY OF SAINT BASIL Russian, late 18th century Tempera on wood panel with kovcheg, haloes gilded. The upper register depicts the nine angelic hierarchies with Christ as the Lamb of God in the centre; below are the three Greek Church Fathers. The icon illustrates the hymn 'Let all mortal flesh keep silence,' sung during the Liturgy of Saint Basil. Background stripped to gesso, minor retouching. 31 x 26.3 cm.
