A VERY FINE AND RARE VITA ICON OF ST. ALEXIUS, THE MAN OF GOD Russian, 17th century Tempera on wood panel with double kovcheg. The haloe and folds of the garments made of gold. At the center of the icon is a full-length depiction of the saint turning towards Christ. The central image is surrounded by nine scenes from his life: his birth, education, betrothal, farewell to his bride, a beggar before the saint in Edessa, his death, and the translation of his relics.
