A VERY FINE AND MONUMENTAL ICON SHOWING THE ENTRY INTO JERUSALEM FROM A CHURCH ICONOSTASIS Russian, last third of the 18th century Tempera on wood panel. The haloes made of gold. The composition follows classical Russian iconography, yet incorporate elements of Western Classicism, reflected in the composition and the modeling of the figures. The arrangement of the figures within architectural setting is harmoniously balanced, enhancing the solemnity of the scene. The icon is executed in exceptionally fine painting, with faces modeled in warm brown tones, highlighted with red shading for depth and plasticity. Minor vertical cracks, minor losses, minimally restored. 90 × 51.5 cm.
