A VERY FINE AND SMALL ICON SHOWING THE DEISIS Russian, 16th century Tempera on wood panel with kovcheg. The inscriptions painted in gold. In the centre the traditional Deisis showing the Mother of God and John the Baptist in supplication to Christ Pantokrator, the latter portrayed seated on a wooden carved throne with a cushion. All figures skillfully executed, the bright shades of their faces standing out against the deeper colours of the green background. Restorations, laid down on a chip board. 17.5 x 14.8 cm.
