A VERY FINE ICON SHOWING THE RESURRECTION OF CHRIST AND THE DESCENT INTO HELL SURROUNDED BY TWELVE FESTIVALS AND THE PENTECOST Russian, Palekh, circa 1800 Tempera on wood panel. The narrative episodes represented against architectural settings, the individual saints portrayed on gold ground, their miniature figures rendered meticulously, mostly with reds and blues. Vertical crack and lower border restored. 35.4 x 29.2 cm.
