Description
A VERY FINE ICON SHOWING THE DESCENT OF CHRIST INTO HADES AND THE LIBERATION OF THE FOREFATHERS Russian, 16th/17th century Tempera on wood panel with kovcheg. The haloes gilded. The reverse with an applied export permit issued by the Ministry of Culture of the USSR, dated 5 March 1975. Set into a later panel (vrezka). Partially restored. 31 x 26.5 cm.
