A VERY FINE ICON SHOWING THE SMOLENSKAYA MOTHER OF GOD WITH A RARE SILVER-GILT BASMA Russian, 19th century (icon), Russian, Moscow, Sergey Sharov, 1908-1917 (basma) Tempera on wood panel with silk backing. Finely executed in great detail against a golden background. Two selected saints on the borders: Sts. Barbara and Tatiana. The very fine silver-gilt basma decorated with cast foliage and set with red cabochons. Marked with assayer's mark, 84 standard and master's mark 'SSh' in Cyrillic. Partially restored. 31.5 x 27 cm.
