A VERY FINE ICON OF THE DORMITION OF THE MOTHER OF GOD (KOIMESIS) Central Russia, late 19th century Tempera on cypress wood panel with kovcheg, gilded haloes and background. With two saints on the borders: Saint Sergius of Radonezh and Saint Niphont. Executed in very fine, detailed painting with vibrant colours, with delicate rendering of the flesh and rich ornamentation of the architectural background. Minor paint losses. 30.6 x 25.8 cm.
