A VERY FINE ICON SHOWING CHRIST PANTOKRATOR Central Russian, Follower of Dionisii, 16th century Tempera on wood panel with kovcheg. Facing the viewer directly Christ is portrayed solemnly, his hair arranged to one side. Painted traditionally in deep shades of brown, the features well defined, solemnly rendered with earthly colours. Inserted into a later panel (vrezka), minimally restored, losses to the borders. 31 x 25.6 cm.
