VERY FINE, DATED AND RARE ICON WITH SAINT NICHOLAS OF MOSHAISK Russian, dated 1847 Egg tempera on chalk ground on panel, gold ground, chrysography. Four border saints: the Guardian Angel as well as Saints George, Athanasius, and Sergius of Radonezh. A finely executed, detailed icon. On either side of the saint, two scenes from his life are depicted: Nicholas saving three innocent men from execution by the sword, and freeing three innocents from prison. Lower edge partly restored. Incised date and Cyrillic inscription along the lower edge. 34.4 x 27.8 cm.
