A MONUMENTAL VITA ICON SHOWING STS. FLORUS AND LAURUS Russian, 17th century Tempera on wood panel with kovcheg. The central panel showing the Archangel Michael with his wings outspread standing against the green background; flanked by the figures of FlorUs and LaurUs, upon whom he confers the protection of horses. All three figures stand atop mountains, at the foot of which a herd of horses is driven to a watering place by the Sainted Cappadocian grooms Speuesippos, Eleusippos and Meleusippos.
