A MONUMENTAL ICON SHOWING ST. GEORGE KILLING THE DRAGON FROM A CHURCH ICONOSTASIS Russian, Palekh, 19th century Tempera on wood panel. Finely executed on a gold ground. The saint's full military attire complemented by a floating, red cape, riding a white, robust and rearing horse. An angel carrying a crown and descending from the skies towards the saint. The rescued Princess Elisaba pausing at the gate of the tower. Finely executed in great detail with chrysography. 90 x 70 cm.
