A MONUMENTAL ICON SHOWING 'IN THEE REJOICETH' (HYMN TO HOLY VIRGIN) FROM A CHURCH ICONOSTASIS Russian, 1st half of the 17th century Tempera on wood panel with kovcheg. The Mother of God enthroned holding the Christ Child, the latter extending his hand in blessing, surrounded by angels. Two groups of saints depicted in the lower part. The composition painted in detail, mostly with tones of green, blue and red, the wings of the angels accentuated with gold highlights. The background stripped to the gesso, losses to the borders, minor vertical crack, partially restored. 76.2 x 67 cm.
