A MONUMENTAL ICON SHOWING KING DAVID FROM A CHURCH ICONOSTASIS Russian, early 17th century Tempera on wood panel with kovcheg. His crown made of silver and gold emulating pearl decoration. The facial features accentuated with delicate white brushstrokes, the vestments with saturated colours. The background and border stripped to gesso, horizontal cut restored. 109 x 34.5 cm.
