A MONUMENTAL ICON OF THE RESURRECTION OF CHRISTI FROM A CHURCH ICONOSTASIS Russian, St. Petersburg, early 19th century Tempera on wood panel. Finely painted with the risen Christ ascending in glory above Roman soldiers, flanked by an angel. Executed in great detail in bright colours. The flesh rendered with soft shades, the features well defined. The vvestments finely rendered in shades of red and blue and highlighted in gold. Influenced by the western style of painting. The large size of the offered icon would suggest that it was most likely once displayed on an iconostasis within a large church. Minimal vertical cracks. Minimal areas of restoration. 134 x 109.5 cm.
