A MONUMENTAL ICON SHOWING CHRIST IN MAJESTY Russian, 19th century Tempera on wood panel with kovcheg. Executed in bright colours on a gold ground. Seated on an opulent throne and cushions, Christ is blessing and bearing the open Gospels. Christ's feet rest upon a footstool. He is surrounded by a mandorla with cherubim and a red four-pointed star with the Apocalyptic symbols of the Evangelists. Partially restored. 107 x 80.8 cm.
