Description
A MONUMENTAL ICON SHOWING THE ENTHRONED NICHOLAS OF MYRA FROM A CHURCH ICONOSTASIS Northern Greek, 17th century Tempera on wood panel. The background made of gold. The saint flanked by the half-length figures of Christ and his Mother, the former blessing and offering him the Gospels, the latter presenting him with the Bishop's omophorion (stole). The elaborately carved wooden throne with a tall back and a cushion, placed on a marble pedestal. Painted carefully with bright colours and gold. The lower border with burn mark, minor areas of retouching. 79 x 52.8 cm.
