A MONUMENTAL ICON SHOWING THE ENTRY INTO JERUSALEM FROM A CHURCH ICONOSTASIS Russian, 16th century Tempera on wood panel with kovcheg. Depicting Christ entering the walled city of Jerusalem upon a white horse, the apostles standing on the left, the citizens of the city greeting the Saviour to the right. The icon originating in all probability from the Feast Day tier of an iconostasis. Inserted into another panel (vrezka), minimally restored. 74 x 49.5 cm.
