A SMALL ICON SHOWING THE KAZANSKAYA MOTHER OF GOD WITH SILVER OKLAD Russian, 19th century (icon), Russian, Ulyanovsk (Simbirsk), 1849 (oklad) Tempera on wood panel. The silver oklad finely embossed with rich floral and rocaille ornament, the corners further set with amethysts. The hem of Christ's chiton and the star on the Virgin's maphorion are inlaid with turquoise. Struck with city hallmark, assayer's mark, 84 standard, and master's mark. 23 x 19.7 cm.
