A SMALL DATED ICON OF THE MOTHER OF GOD OF THE SIGN (ZNAMENIE-KURSKAYA) Russian, Moscow, Ivan Ivanovich Silin, dated 1911 Tempera on wood panel with kovcheg. With gilded ground and border, the latter ornately punched. On the reverse with an extensive Cyrillic inscription: 'This icon of the Mother of God 'of the Sign' was purchased as a memento of the miraculous dream-vision and the spirit of the Last Judgment of God. This icon was bought on 27 February 1911 in Silin's shop on Nikolaevskaya Street. Purchased by the peasant Pavel Alekseev Batapin from the village of Bolshoye Okulovo, Lipensk volost, Murom district, Vladimir province.' Minimally restored. 17.6 x 13.9 cm.
