AN ICON SHOWING CHRIST IN MAJESTY Russian, 18th century Tempera on wood panel with kovcheg. Applied metal halo. Seated on an opulent throne and cushions, Christ is blessing and bearing the open Gospels. His face depicted in subdued earthly tones. He is surrounded by an almond shaped area depicted in red. Throughout the mandorla cherubim can be seen. The blue glory decorated with seraphim, the red four-pointed star with the Apocalyptic symbols of the Evangelists. The border stripped to gesso, minimally restored. 35.5 x 31.5 cm.
