Description
AN ICON SHOWING THE PROPHET NAHUM WITH THE VISION OF CHRIST ON THE MOUNTAIN Russian, 18th century Tempera on wood panel with kovcheg, partially gilded. The composition presumably refers to Nahum 1:15: 'Behold, upon the mountains the feet of him who brings good tidings and proclaims peace.' The Old Testament prophecy is here interpreted Christologically and visualised through the appearance of Christ on the mountain. Set into a later panel (vrezka), minimally restored. 25.1 x 26.5 cm.
