A VERY LARGE AND FINE STAUROTHEK ICON SHOWING THE CRUCIFIXION AND SELECTED SAINTS Russian, last third 18th century Tempera on wood panel. The haloes made of gold. The garments painted in gold assist and finely decorated in differing shades of gold. A gilded brass and enamel crucifix inset in the panel with main liturgical feasts. The crucifix surrounded by the mourning figures of the Three Women, John the Evangelist and the Centurion. Vertical crack minimally restored. 50.5 x 42.3 cm.
