A VERY FINE AND VERY LARGE ICON SHOWING THE RESURRECTION AND DESCENT INTO HELL SURROUNDED BY TWELVE MAJOR FEASTS OF THE CHURCH WITH SILVER BASMA Russian, Palekh, circa 1800 (icon), Russian, Moscow, Dmitry Shyelaputin, 1890 (basma) Tempera on wood panel with kovcheg. The haloes made of gold. The icon finely painted with extensive ornamental detail and chrysography. Two selected saints on the borders: Sts. John Chrysostom and Tsarevich Dmitriy of Uglich. The silver basma repoussé and chased with foliate frieze. Marked with city hallmark, assayer's mark, 84 standard and master's mark 'D. SHELAPUTIN' in Cyrillic. Minimally restored. 54.2 x 46 cm.
