A VERY LARGE AND FINE VITA ICON OF ST. NICHOLAS OF MYRA Russian, circa 1800 Tempera on wood panel. Finely rendered in great detail on gold ground. Portrayed frontal, half-length, dressed in elaborate garments, the miniature figures of Christ and his Mother, each on clouds flanking the saint. The main scene framed by a decorative border of baroque-style foliate scrolls, 16 scenes all around narrating the life of the saint. Vertical crack, minor losses, minimally restored. 55.5 x 42.3 cm (with frame).
