A VERY LARGE AND FINE MENOLOGICAL ICON FOR THE MONTH OF MARCH Russian, 17th century Tempera on wood panel with kovcheg. Finely executed in great detail. On four registers, starting from the upper left corner, displayed are the saints and events commemorated in the Orthodox calendar during March. The figures shown against a gold background, the events depicted in front of architectural settings. The garments with saturated colours, red, green and ochre prevailing. Paint blisterings, partially restored. 52 x 40.3 cm.
