A LARGE AND FINE ICON SHOWING THE ANASTASIS WITH THE PASSION CYCLE AND THE MAIN ECCLECIASTICAL FEASTS Central Russian, 19th century Tempera on wood panel. The Anastasis and Resurrection of Christ in the central section, surrounded by the narrative of the Passion consisting of twelve episodes, beginning at the upper left corner with the Last Supper and finishing with the Entombment. Sixteen further events illustrated at a larger scale framing the Passion Cycle. The upper left corner with St. John reciting the Apocalypse to Prochoros on the island of Patmos, the other three evangelists shown in their scriptoria writing their Gospels. The figures painted with bright colours, standing out against the golden backgrounds. Gilding minimally worn. 43.7 x 36.2 cm.
