A VERY LARGE AND FINE ICON SHOWING THE TIKHVINSKAYA MOTHER OF GOD Russian, late 18th century Tempera on wood panel with kovcheg. All bearing gilt haloes, painted finely, the garment folds emphasised with strong gold striations. Four selected saints on the borders, Sts. Samon, Guriy and Aviv among them. Vertical crack, partially restored. On the reverse Cyrillic inscription. 47.7 x 37.5 cm.
