A LARGE AND VERY FINE ICON SHOWING THE ARCHANGEL MICHAEL WITH BASMA Russian, 16th century (icon), Russian, 18th century (basma) Tempera on wood panel with kovcheg. Finely painted against a golden background. The borders overlaid with a chased brass basma. Inserted into a later panel (vrezka), vertical crack restored. 40.6 x 32.5 cm.
