Description
A LARGE ICON SHOWING ST. GEORGE KILLING THE DRAGON Russian, 16th century Tempera on wood panel with kovcheg. The halo made of silver, covered by a golden lacquer. Depicting St. George in full military uniform and red cape mounted on a white horse plunging his lance into the winged red dragon's open mouth. The rescued Princess Elizabeth stands at right, with the dragon still leashed with her belt, her parents can be seen in a tower above her attending the miraculous event. Restoration all over the painting, minor losses. 62.2 x 46.5 cm.
