A FINE ICON SHOWING THE MOTHER OF GOD 'JOY TO ALL WHO GRIEVE' Russian, circa 1700 Tempera on wood panel. The haloes made of gold. The faces modelled delicately with brown and lighter areas of pink, the elegant features more clearly defined with fine white brushstrokes, the angels with braided hair and diadems, their chitons with clavi, their himatia rendered in sombre green, crimson and terracotta tones. Partially restored. 30.5 x 25.3 cm.
