A FINE ICON SHOWING THE 'WET BEARD SAVIOUR' Russian, 16th/17th century Tempera on wood panel with double kovcheg. A rare version of the Mandylion, depicting Christ's face without the cloth. His eyes, long nose and small mouth rendered with refinement, the ogival form of his forehead mirroring the shape of his beard. The face painted with earthen tones. The halo and border stripped to gesso, partially restored. 30.8 x 26 cm.
