A FINE ICON SHOWING CHRIST THE SAVIOUR WITH THE FEARSOME EYE WITH A SILVER-GILT OKLAD Russian, 19th century (icon), Russian, St. Petersburg, 1865 (oklad) Tempera on wood panel with kovcheg. Finely executed against a golden background. Four selected saints on the borders: the Guardian Angel and Sts. Boniface and Catherine. Overlaid with a chased and repoussé silver-gilt oklad with later applications. Marked with city hallmark, assayer's mark, 84 standard and master's mark 'VV' in Cyrillic. Later gilded, partially restored. 31 x 26.6 cm.
