A FINE ICON OF THE SAVIOUR WITH THE FEARSOME EYE Central Russian, Follower of Dionisii, 17th century Tempera on wood panel with kovcheg. Facing the viewer directly Christ is portrayed solemnly, his hair arranged to one side with a short beard terminating in curls. Painted traditionally in deep shades of brown, the features well defined, solemnly rendered with earthly colours. His garments dark green and red with gold highlights. The background stripped to gesso, losses. 31.5 x 26.5 cm.
