DATIERTE IKONE SEINER EXZELLENZ IWAN IWANOWITSCH TERENTEW: FEINE IKONE MIT DEM SCHLEIERWUNDER DER GOTTESMUTTER (POKROW)

A FINE DATED ICON OF HIS EXCELLENCY IVAN IVANOVICH TERENTEV DEPICTING THE PROTECTION OF THE MOTHER OF GOD (POKROV) Russian Moscow, dated 1903 Tempera on wood panel with kovcheg. The narrative episode represented against an architectural setting, the miniature figures rendered meticulously, mostly with reds and greens against a light blue background. Executed delicately with ample gold, the foliate border emulating contemporary enamelled decoration. Two selected saints on the borders: St. John the Forerunner and St. John the Warrior. On the reverse Cyrillic inscription: 'This holy icon belongs to His Excellency Ivan Ivanovich Terentev. From Ivan Andr. Subnov. Year 1903, July 1st day.' Cyrillic inscription along the lower margin: 'Taganka, Semyonovskaya Street, house of Volkov Ap., No. 12, Moscow.' The edges minimally rubbed, minor retouchings. 26.6 x 21.5 cm.
