Description
AN IMPORTANT, VERY RARE AND VERY FINE ICON DEPICTING THE CREATION OF THE WORLD AND THE FALL OF MAN Russian, Palekh, circa 1800 Tempera on wood panel with kovcheg. The central image features the New Testament Trinity, surrounded by eight medallions illustrating the Creation of the Earth and Cosmos, the animals, and Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden-depicted both naked before their fall, eating the forbidden fruit, and their subsequent expulsion from paradise. The miniature painting is exquisitely detailed, with predominant shades of blue, beige, and red contrasting beautifully against the gold accents and deep blue background. Some burn marks are present. 31.6 x 26.6 cm.
