A SIGNED AND DATED ICON OF ST. FEODOSIY OF CHERNIGOV Russian, Palekh, Vasiliy Khokhlov, dated 1903 Tempera on wood panel. Finely painted on an ornate incised gilt ground of repeating patterns, the miter and vestments finely painted to simulate bullion embroidery and gemstones. The borders ornately incised and decorated in faux cloisonné enamel. Signed along the lower margin in Cyrillic 'Icon painter V. Khokhlov, Vladimir Provence, Palekh, 1903, 26th day of June'. Verso of icon with vintage hand-written Cyrillic inscription 'Sanctified and laid upon the holy relics of St. Feodosiy'. Minimally restored. 35.3 x 30.7 cm.
