A RARE AND COMPLEX ICON OF THE ONLY BEGOTTEN SON OF GOD (THE CRUCIFIXION OF JESUS CHRIST) Russian, 19th/20th century Tempera on wood panel. The haloes and border made of silver, covered by a golden lacquer. The original icon from 1668-1669 is kept in the Armoury Chamber in the Moscow Kremlin. Originates from the Church of Gregory of Neocaesarea in Moscow. The iconography goes back to the 16th century. Restorations. 53.5 x 44.2 cm.
