Description
EVGENY LVOVICH RUKHIN 1943 Saratov - 1976 Leningrad ICONOSTASIS Dated (19)75 Mixed media on canvas. 80 x 75 cm (F. 86 x 81 cm). Signed and dated in Cyrillic top right 'E. Rukhin 75.'. Verso sealed, unopened. Evgeny Ruchin - a Soviet artist and a prominent figure in Leningrad's unofficial art scene. He participated in the so-called "Bulldozer Exhibition" of 1974 - an open-air exhibition in Moscow that was forcibly shut down by the authorities and became a symbol of artistic resistance in the Soviet Union. Ruchin belonged to the nonconformist movement and worked with experimental materials and expressive, often abstract compositions. Religion also played an important role in his art, and reliefs of metal icons frequently appeared as a central motif in his works. Slight losses of paint. Provenance: acquired directly from the artist. Private collection, North Rhine-Westphalia.
