VIOLINET (BOWED ZITHER) JOHANNES PUGH Hamburg-Altona, around 1920 Two-piece, pyramid-shaped spruce top and flattened back, arched fingerboard with 24 frets, scroll with engravings and ivory pegs. L. 55, w. 20.5, d. 9.5 cm. Zither label: ' Violinett No. 226', 'D. R.-P. No. 154206, D. R.-G. M. No. D. R.-G. M. No. 216555 Pat. in Austria and Great Britain Johannes Pugh, Altona a. E.'. The violinett or stringed zither is a four-stringed instrument which was invented in 1903 by Johannes Pugh in Hamburg-Altona. Min. rubbed and bumped, two strings missing.
