Description
RARE ARCHTOP ELECTRIC GUITAR ROGER 'MODEL SUPER' Berlin, circa 1950 Arched spruce top, German Carve (chamfered), six-string, mahogany neck and block inlays of imitation mother-of-pearl, celluloid binding, sunburst finish, with original hard-shell case. Length 115 cm, scale length 64 cm. Marked "Roger" on the neck; label inside reads: "Roger Guitar Model Super No. 271 Berlin W 62 Lutherstr." The "Roger Super" is one of the top models from the Berlin-based guitar manufacturer Roger, founded by Wenzel Rossmeisl (1902-1966). After World War II, the workshop on Berlin's Lutherstraße developed into one of Germany's most important manufacturers of high-quality archtop guitars. As the brand's flagship model, the Super was the direct counterpart to the top models from American manufacturers such as Gibson or Gretsch. The low serial number 271 indicate an early example of Berlin's postwar production. Partially restored and refinished; the finish shows signs of wear and use due to age, as well as isolated scratches and pressure marks. Provenance: Private collection, North Rhine-Westphalia.
