Description
HELICON JOSEF LIDL WITH MOUTHPIECE Brno, Czech Republic, 20th century. Helikon tuba made of brass, nickel silver, with 4 rotary valves. H. ca. 106 cm, bell D. 45 cm. On bell marked 'Josef Lidl Brno Zelny Made in Czechoslovakia', on the machine serial number '13227'. The helicon is a large and deep sounding tuba known for its characteristic design with a bell bent to one side. The helicon is the forerunner of the sousaphone and finds its use in marching and later jazz and folk music. Due to its design, which is wrapped around the player, the helicon can be carried better than an ordinary tuba. Part. bumped, slightly dented, according to the consignor ready to play.
